NH3 Energy +: More Information on the Topical Conference

NH3 Fuel Association President Norm Olson made three announcements this week about specific aspects of the “NH3 Energy+: Enabling Optimized, Sustainable Energy and Agriculture” Topical Conference.

The Topical Conference will be held on Wednesday November 1 and Thursday November 2 as part of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers’ (AIChE) Annual Meeting in Minneapolis in the U.S.

Registration Discount for NH3 Fuel Association members
The first announcement pertains to a conference registration discount for members of the NH3 Fuel Association (NH3FA). Olson said that the AIChE is offering a discount of $410 to NH3FA members, the same discount provided to members of the AIChE itself.

Without discounts, the full-conference registration fee for non-members would be $1,109 until the end of day on Monday, September 18 (after this Early-Bird period, the registration fee rises to $1,189 through October 28; it then rises again to $1,269 for on-site registrations at the conference venue during the Annual Meeting).

However, members of either AIChE or the NH3 Fuel Association will receive a discount on these fees, bringing the cost down to $699 for registrations before the end of September 18 (after which time the discounted cost will rise to $779 or $859, depending on when the booking is made).

Single-day rates are also available; however, NH3 Fuel Association members receive no discounts on the daily rates.

Olson said that for the last several years, the NH3 Fuel Association has embedded its membership dues in the registration fee for the NH3 Fuel Conference. This year, he said, those wishing to join the NH3 Fuel Association should do so using its new membership page. Annual dues are $100, and instructions for how to register for the AIChE Annual Meeting at the discounted rate will be provided once the dues-payment process is completed.

NH3 Fuel Association Members who register for the full AIChE Annual Meeting are not limited to attending the NH3 Energy+ Topical Conference sessions, but can attend any session offered at the full AIChE Annual Meeting, as well as adding other ticketed events to their schedule during check-out.

Travel Stipends for Students
Olson’s second announcement unveiled a stipend program to make it easier for graduate students to attend the Topical Conference.

The stipend program is part of the AIChE Foundation’s support for student participation in the organization and its events, and it is being extended as a courtesy to students interested in the Topical Conference.

Ten stipends of $500 each will be available.

The stipends will be awarded by the NH3 Fuel Association to students currently enrolled at a university that has representatives speaking at the Topical Conference. A list of qualifying institutions is displayed at the right.

The NH3 Fuel Association’s web page for Students describes how to apply for the stipend. Students wishing to take advantage of this offer should send an email with their university affiliation to info@nh3fuelassociation.org. The NH3 Fuel Association will respond with an indication of whether the stipend has been granted or not. Those designated to receive the stipend should register for the Annual Meeting in the normal manner. After the conference, stipend recipients will be asked to send travel receipts worth at least $500 to the AIChE. Reimbursement will be provided subsequently.

NH3 Energy+ Reception
Olson’s final announcement was that the NH3 Fuel Association will host a sponsors reception on the evening of the Topical Conference’s first day on November 1. The event will provide an opportunity for the Association to honor the sponsor companies who have committed to support the Association’s 2017 conference and other endeavors.

All NH3 Fuel Association members will receive an invitation to the reception, which will also be open to all attendees of the AIChE Annual Meeting.

“The NH3 Fuel Association could not be more appreciative of the AIChE’s efforts to make us feel welcome at their Annual Meeting this year,” Olson said. “We are sure the Topical Conference and the Annual Meeting will be tremendously successful in all respects!”
