Based at Vesta Terminals’ existing import site at Vlissingen, Uniper & Vesta will explore the feasibility of developing a new ammonia import hub in northwest Europe. The existing 60,000m³ of refrigerated ammonia storage tank capacity will be refurbished, allowing the “Greenpoint Valley” hub to accommodate nearly one million tonnes of ammonia per year. Future expansion will double that throughput capacity, and include a connection to the under-construction Dutch national hydrogen distribution pipeline.

Uniper intends to book out the whole terminal capacity, giving them two entry points for hydrogen-as-ammonia into Europe for distribution: Wilhelmshaven and now Vlissingen.

We are proud to have achieved another step towards establishing a seaborne green hydrogen product portfolio at Uniper. With access to Vesta’s future terminal we will be able to supply our growing European customer base with green ammonia and green hydrogen products.

Proton Ventures announced it has been awarded a FEED contract by an unnamed, UAE-based oil & gas major for the design of a new ammonia export terminal, which will feature the “biggest ammonia tanks ever built in the Middle East”. The terminal will be able to operate at temperatures well above 50°C, and further news about the project to emerge in 2023.
